Traditionally, foil is the first weapon taught to any beginning student. At Halberstadt, beginning classes are designed to give you the basics of fencing, such as footwork and holding the foil, understanding right-of-way, and basic offense and defense actions.During the 8-week course, you’ll be introduced to all of the equipment.  You’ll learn basic footwork, including the advance, retreat and lunge; basic offense, including direct attacks and indirect attacks; and basic defense, including parries and ripostes.  In addition to the hands-on portion of the class, you’ll also be introduced to the concept of right-of-way, which is essential to scoring touches in foil.

Your coach will teach simple tactics and strategies to get you fencing almost immediately and you’ll hone your new skills over the 8 weeks.

At Halberstadt, it’s never too late to start fencing!  If you’re ready to try it, use our contact form to register for the next class session!
